What is Literacy? PDF Print E-mail

Literacy can briefly be described as the ability to understand and use written information. It is not simply being able to read, write and calculate.

It is no longer a matter of "Can you read?" but "How well can you read?"

At Least 22% of Canadians will have problems reading this webpage.

Six and one half million Canadians 16-65 years old need help with basic reading and writing skills.

Another eight million Canadians need to improve their reading and writing in order to get better jobs, or get higher education.
